Prof.Sivakumar

Sivakumar Srinivasan aka anbudan Siva is a professor of solid mechanics at the Department of Applied Mechanics, IIT Madras. He has been teaching and learning at IIT Madras for the past 20 years. Awe-struck by the beauty of the serene IIT campus, he fell in love with the campus when he was a UG and a PG student at the same institute which prompted him to come back in 1994 to become a faculty of IIT Madras.

He has also served as a visiting professor at the Texas A&M University and CalTech, USA. His work has been published in several journals and proceedings. Also, has been the author of a few technical books. He is a member of several technical bodies and panels and coordinator of some in India. Many of his students are now faculty in reputed academic institutions and hold high positions in the industry.

Loves to play with kids, good at tinkering with toys, spends time reading behavioural sciences books, a music enthusiast and spiritually bent. Has been a math lover since early school days, has won a few math Olympiad prizes and brilliant student awards too. He conducts an “Engineering can be fun” workshop for IIT campus kids in the weekends.

He currently holds an important position of chief advisor of a movement called ‘mitr’- mentoring for individual’s transformation at IIT Madras providing guidance and counselling to the students but most importantly being a good friend to them.
